On September 8, 2023, severe storms impacted Northern New Jersey, bringing significant hail and damaging winds. Hailstones reached sizes of up to 2 inches in diameter. The storm affected multiple counties including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren.
The National Weather Service issued several severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the day, with the event starting around 2:00 PM and concluding around 9:00 PM. Flash flooding and damaging winds up to 65 mph were also reported during this time, causing damage to trees and above-ground utilities throughout the region.
While tens of thousands of insurance claims have already been filed, residential damage from this storm is still being discovered.
